When was the last time you took a look at your passion project and re-examined wether it was still the right passion? You can change from what you considered at one time your passion to another. I’ve encountered many that believe passion is like your DNA. That everyone has a passion that is theirs and it’s the only passion they will ever have in their lifetime because it’s predetermined based on a person’s blueprint.
I would challenge that. If you’re feeling bad because your passion is just not something you passionate about any more, it’s time to move on. You don’t have to be stuck with it. You also don’t have to be guilty about telling your supervisor or family that it’s something that you are not passionate about any more and your shifting.
Howard Thurman said this about passions:
Don’t ask yourself what type the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive and then go do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.
One of the most common ways you can reassign your passion is self reflection and being present. A great question you can start with is “Today I felt most alive when I…….” and then fill in that blank after I. Make it simple. When we can consciously take a time out to reflect and be present with how we feel, we will really get a shot at what makes us most connected or engaged.
Another very simple way to test and reset is to examine the current stake you have in your passion project. Flip it over, turn it around, and get connected a little more with the feelings you have of boredom or disengagement. If you didn’t notice above in the title, it’s passionate spelled backwards. Looks odd and weird, but it’s completely a different way to look at the word. Do that frequently and often with your current passion projects. In our self-examination we might be able to revive our passion or better yet, know it’s time to let go.
I’ve changed my passions several times thus far on my journey in this life. I hope I will change many more as you continue on. I believe in what Howard Thurman says above, the more you can have and experience, the better life gets.
Hope your week is going well. Thanks for reading.
