There’s going to be a day. You’re going to look like I did into it’s awful long and endless maw. As far as your mind and eye can see it will lay out in front of you. I am here to tell you it’s the best thing for you. It’s the best thing that can happen to you. It doesn’t feel like it when you’re faced with it in real time, but it is.
None of this is your fault or someone else’s fault. The sooner you get to understand that and get started, the better off things and you will be. The sooner you click into the challenge ahead, the sooner you will learn you’re capable and well equipped to face the slog ahead.
You can live a life of contribution and productivity. You don’t have to give up, you can get in there among the dirt and grit to learn about what you’re capable of. You will wash yourself after playing around in that dirt and find that dirt won’t come off. It sticks around reminding you that you’re potential is much higher than you ever thought. That’s a trophy you get to keep of accomplishment, a badge of courage no one can steal.
Expectation is going to come calling. You can’t be judged by the fruit you want, but you will be judged by what the fruit you bare. By wether you are doing or not doing, your behavior. You must be willing to do the things you don’t want to do, to get to the places and things you want. It doesn’t happen even in reverse where wanting something just happens. You have to put in the work, it’s so much more rewarding.
I’ve learned in this life that nothing can stop you if your doing it for the right reasons like your community or your family. When I did it for “things” or “material gains” it was hollow and fleeting, it never stuck or staid with me after. When it was internal, it showed me the priceless value of who I was or wasn’t. It was intrinsic in its rewards and it always stuck around. I came out stronger and with a thicker skin. It was deeper than money and things.
I want you to feel that pain leave your body like I felt it leave my body. When it does, you will find success. Even when you fail at it and you’re hurting. You will learn. If it was easy, wouldn’t everyone be doing it? Wouldn’t everyone have a world wide company that has the power to change the world? Wouldn’t everyone have the incredible skill of influence to use responsibly that can enrich lives?
You don’t belong at the bottom. But, sometimes that’s where things will have to start. Like the picture I captured above it’s long, muddy, slick, and it’s the only road out. I have a story I will share someday from that road I took. My own desert moment. I’ll never forget it. I made it out, it changed me forever, and I will never ever forget it. I realized I was getting to comfortable in my life, and expectations dropped in to remind that I was to comfortable. I wasn’t living like I was suppose to or meant to live.
If you can outlast the pain, get through that discomfort, and get to the other side of it I promise you what you will learn will always make you stronger. Outlast it. Don’t judge yourself by what you’ve not tested first hand as a measurement of what you’re capable of achieving. You won’t reach your full potential with out that discomfort.
