What are we afraid of? In context of now, what is the most challenging thing you’re dealing with? Have you ever put yourself in front of the most uncomfortable thing possible before? As we put ourselves in front of the uncomfortable if we can build some resilience to get through, it will almost always yield something positive.
We can hack our inner courage to take the first step by simply addressing the fear/challenge in a different light. Training ourselves to counteract those times where unwanted feelings or thoughts keep us from taking that first step is called a neurohack. Very similar to a “life hack” but designed to improve the way we think.
One of the simplest neurohacks I’ve researched and read all state one simple action we can take. That act is to just face it as uncomfortable as it may be. Unwanted feelings or thoughts faced head-on lose their power over us and our forward momentum. Guts over fear. Grit.
Another way to achieve onward and upward movement is to ensure that any inner dialogue we have with ourselves is as positive as possible. Choose those inner words very carefully. If you think you can’t, you can’t. If you think you can, you can.
“Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re 100% right.” – Greg Hickman
We’ve found a way to make excuses an art form and we feed those excuses our negative feelings and insecurities. In life, what you think is what you get. That simple. So, why not think you can with everything. Give your life the best shot possible everyday.
Using positive inner speech so that it reflects what we are possible of doing over what we’re not capable of has a profound way of shaping our resilience to push through. Speak to the identity you want to be known for. The best example I have is one I use often for longer runs I’ve not trained fully for yet. Changing my inner monologue from just someone who runs to referencing myself as a runner. I’M A RUNNER 🏃
These two things seem overly simple. Maybe that’s why they get overlooked? When you put yourself in front of it to make it tangible and then use positive inner dialogue that reflects what you want and can be, you will start to see your best self emerge.
You want to be the best runner, seller, closer, teacher, and so on? I would say you already are!
