“A goal is not always meant to be reached, it often serves simply as something to aim at.” – Bruce Lee
We think in terms of ending something we start. But, maybe we’re not suppose to or meant to reach the end. To think that way going into the final couple of weeks left in our first month of 2019, I found this quote to be a great way to look at our work.
Lets say we get to the end of the month and we wrap up. Does the new habit or new you stop? Or, is it just the start? The very idea of stopping becomes kind of ridiculous if you look at yourself being done. You’ve seen yourself come so far. There’s more in there right?
Potential is a crazy thing. It never really ever ends. Your potential to do more once you hit one goal. Potential to be better and better is something that you will never reach. Because as you continue to reach each level of new potential, a new world opens up to you that you’ve not seen. Soon after exploring it, you’ll find a new aim. And so it continues.
This blog and now the podcast is a great example. Being a podcaster never crossed my mind. I just wanted to write and learn. Then as I learned and wrote, I started to figure out some things that were kind of exciting, you all gave me more, and I started to think I could be better than what I was. For the next year as I learn casting, I’m sure there will be a new aim that comes from that learning.
Are there goals to be reached, yes. As I ran my first marathon every mile I hit was a goal. Then I set another for the next mile. And so on. I did this 26.2 times to be exact until I crossed that line. Then, I wondered if I could do that, then I could probably do an ultra which is about 32+ miles or more. Have I run that yet, no. But, it’s something to aim for that today I still want to do as I continue to run just about everyday.
Where do you find your peace? Mine? Mine comes from pushing my potential further whenever I can. I can’t see life in any other kind of context.
Have a great week ahead. I hope your aim keeps you honest.
