Last post was about finding or being a coach for others. Now that you are one or have one, time to assemble the team. Having a team behind you while you conquer this year is a incredible driver in and of itself. It can be hard or frustrating to work with a team. A lot of competing personalities in a mix is sometimes hard to fit together. Nothing like it though when it can fit. Everyone can benefit when it’s just right.
One of the best teams I continue to work for and with is one that was built to be as inclusive and diverse as possible. Having diverse talent brings a lot of different things that all on the team can benefit from. How boring would a team be that was built around all having the same or similar personalities and talent? Diversity helps you or others find quicker solutions to the toughest problems. New ways of thinking that come with the diversity of the team will greatly increase the chances of everyone seeing success.
You ever feel the tension in a team you’ve been on? You need that tension for the team to really work well. You can generally pick it up from each other. Usually it comes in the form of each member being accountable to a part of the whole. Conflict actually is a sign that a team wants a solution together when it’s found in the group. I’ve read in my studies that its called cognitive friction. To be clear, conflict for the sake of conflict in the group is not good. Focused, it can be powerful.

When you get stuck in your old ways, a great team can shake you up. Fresh blood brings fresh ideas. Having other opinions can challenge or kickstart your creativity. Success becomes enhanced with each new edition to the team. Introducing someone new into the team who challenges the rest or the views of others is a great recipe to winning.
Another great boon to having yourself be a part of a team is in the stories you share with one another. They breed humility. You cannot help but feel an empathetic response to someone sharing their struggles. You find your struggles are not so great. You can even find common focus at times in others shares that mirror yours. As you move along you become more improved together as you better understand what struggles others around you share. Stories make us relate to one another in a different way. They elicit a bond that cannot be broken in shared challenge.
I’m sure you have had the opportunity at least once in your life to witness the moments when, working as part of a team, everything comes together. The results many times will beat that of just winning as an individual. There are many groups out there for you to start with, you just have to do a search for them. At work, you have a team around you everyday you can become part of. One thing is for certain, the one thing that’s been eluding you to achieve the goal you want this year is probably somewhere in a team waiting for you to discover it.
Thanks for reading! Have a great rest of the week.
