Fellow viewers and listeners of the podcast, I’ve been under. Not only is the weather giving me a beating, but I’ve had Bronchitis for the last two weeks. My voice is shot, thus the reason for no podcasts.
In my part of the country the windchill has hit an unbelievably cold -60 degrees. But, at the same time, its created some great experiential moments that I’ve been able to capture that I would not have otherwise.
Something that this kind of weather does that is great, is it makes you pause. You freeze 🥶 and you become still. It’s made me curious. It’s made me look and ask, “I wonder what that looks like now at -60 degrees?” Gives me a little confidence too. You have to have that to even go out and shoot this kind of thing in weather like this. Don’t worry, I was out in it for less than 20 minutes to get these shots.
But not everything freezes. Some things continue. Water is a powerful thing. It just flows around or under whatever is in it’s way. It finds a way. Bruce Lee said:
“Be like water.”
Sometimes we get frozen by our thoughts. Maybe not actually frozen, but stilled by them. Those moments should be embraced and held dear. That’s when I feel the most alive. When I listen. When I am present. When all I can feel or hear is stillness.
If you’re in the Midwest and shut in due to the weather, enjoy the silence. Might not get it again for a bit. Embrace that moment you have to yourself. Write down how it feels. Learn how to create that space again and again.
I’ll be resuming the podcast next week once my voice returns to normal. I’ll keep writing in the meantime. You keep reading. Appreciate you all!
Stay warm and be safe.
✌🏻 Shawn
