Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
– Dylan Thomas
Dylan was a celebrated Welsh poet. Super well known and popular in fact for just giving life the “what for.” He often shared that in his prose and craft. Another great excerpt from his work that strikes me:
Light breaks where no sun shines..
– Dylan Thomas
Both are ones that I choose to ponder and explore with you. They are both reminders of where we can often times find the best in ourselves but rarely want to explore. We don’t like to get uncomfortable or find ourselves for to long where there is no safety of the light. But, never the less, that’s where I have always found my next evolutionary leap in creativity or performance. In the dark unknown.
Dylan was very similar in the literary world. He refused to be pigeon holed as a certain type or style as a poet. He was crticially torn apart by others in his craft for the way he bucked the standard of that time for prose. Often times, he wrote and played against the grain of the expectations of other poets that wrote in his time. He was told his work was unclassifiable. Can you imagine your supervisor or your friends saying your “unclassifiable” in your work?
Like Dylan, I have enjoyed moving against the norm and finding the my best self in raging against what has always been the “way” of things. I learn from conventional wisdom, but long to find a different wisdom if that makes sense. I don’t enjoy safety. It’s very boring to me. I’m in love with classified as being the rouge and a radical. Yes, at times completely face planting along the way. But, I’ve raged.
All that said, today’s roulette is simple. Go where the sun doesn’t shine for a few. See what you can find in the dark of the unknown about yourself. Your truth isn’t always where you live and work. It’s not always as visible as you would like to think. Never stop looking for it in unconventional places. Surprise yourself with what’s possible.
Thanks for reading and taking the journey with me today. Hope the rest of your week is fantastic. Rage!
✌ Shawn
