Vacation Was a Blast and Worth It

WE NEED A COMPLETE VACATION TO BE OUR BEST SELVES FOR OTHERS. Yes, that was intended to be in caps and yes, it’s because I am yelling at the top of my lungs.

As you all know, I put a pause on the work I’ve been doing both on the podcast front and on the IBtP blog front while I took a 9 day vacation away. It was glorious!

As you can see I did Disney. More than anything the elements of a great vacation taught me I can:

  • Completely take a break from tech
  • Connect deeper with people I love around me more
  • Improve my work of continued mindfulness and being present
  • Find power in pure boredom or daydreaming

Those were just a few of the biggies. All very worthy. You can find a truer self.

You can truly appreciate your hard work so much more when you take a complete break from it. You get perspective. And, it’s can totally be your reward for a job well done. You did it! Now bathe in that glory by treating yourself!

You can still try to achieve something during a vacation as well. It doesn’t have to be all play. Maybe there is a dream you’ve not entertained doing because you didn’t have time. For instance, like running at Disney just for fun and the experience. Not for a PR, just for the experience of it.

I wanted to thank you all for giving me that time, but also wanted to share with what I learned from taking one. It was more than just talk last week, I actually did let go of work and tech. Other than tech that is for photo taking needs. I had to capture the fun and vacation so I can look back and be reminded to plan another.

I learned a vacation is never a waste of time and should not be something we need to feel guilty about doing. It can make us better. It can recharge us for what could be even more challenging work to come ahead of us. Hope you take one soon 🏖

Great to be back though and I am looking forward to resuming with the podcast and IBtP regular postings. April is going to be a blast!

✌🏻 Shawn
