Our minds love to play a tricks on us. It’s built for avoidance. Some of us are great at being self-aware that our brains are actually in control of us, others are not and let it take over. Somehow, autopilot is just fine. Self-awarenes took me years to truly just get good at it, not even find mastery. Years!
In those moments however, that’s where our truth lives. Our truth in what we’re really capable of. You don’t truly pick that up, unless you’re running into the haze. The more resistance you encounter, the better. The closer you will get to your truth.
Someone told me or I picked it up on a podcast, not sure which, that daily we should do something that completely sucks. Something that we’ve been avoiding because we’re just that freaked out about it or fear we won’t be able to make it to the other side. That long run for training. That post you’ve been wanting to get up. Or, that relationship you want to improve upon.
In those moments when we do go all in with the uncomfortable consistently are often where the true nuggets of growth and learning can be found. Nuggets of where our passion truly lies. Passion is hard after all. The very nature of passion at its center you’ll find it is meant to be hard. That’s why you’re drawn to it as your passion. It’s not easy. There would be a lot more passionate people in this world if it was easy.
Make it your passion to put yourself in those nugget moments. You will find strength. You will find surprise and delight. You will find self-worth. You will find what you’re incredible at and where you suck. You will learn problem solving in adverse conditions. You will find the nuggets you need to keep you empowered and engaged. You will find your truth.
I’m not saying ignore your mind completely, just teach it something. Teach it, it is wrong. Then find your way back again. Where you’re completely uncomfortable yet, somehow where you should be. Your center. It won’t feel the same every time you return. It shouldn’t, because you’re learning. The nuggets you gather up will show you there is a better version of yourself under there.
These nuggets to me are the bread crumbs leading me to something incredible. They’re hard to find. The journey they lead me towards doesn’t have a finite end to it. I’m picking them up every chance I get. Now, I’m helping others do the same.
Thanks for reading! Hope this holiday weekend has shown you something in the quiet moments you’ve always wanted to try, but yet, couldn’t take that tiny next step to get going. The nuggets will help, but you have to get in there first to find them.
