Eclectic, calming.
Smiles, laughter, meetings had.
Community hum.
Shawn Ward, 5-7-5 Haiku
With this Haiku I tried to invoke the feelings one has for their favorite hang out. Where they like to go, other then their own home, to just unwind and do whatever we want to do for a few hours. Our getaway. Sometimes these are business hubs where we do meetings virtually. A place we can land.
The picture above is really one my favorite spots to go. I’m always grateful for a place that feels connected to their community, has a smile when you walk in, and if you go there enough can even remember your name. A place that asks about how your family is doing. A owner that truly is interested and curious about every patron that comes across their door stops.
Some of the best local spots also have a way they support their community with advertising or supporting local shops around them by using their space to highlight the community around them. I usually enjoy the very special journey each one has and showcases. And, yes, you can find this in a corporate shop as well. Working together, these places often amplify their efforts to be there for the community that makes their locations so unique.
Support your local spot. You have one. It may not be a coffee spot, it could be a local private grocery store, or a great eatery. Take the off beaten path, and find something special today wherever you are. Ask a local, they’ll tell you where that spot is.
My spot I choose to highlight if you’re ever in the area is Zen Cafe Coffee Roasters in South Bend, IN. You find yourself in the area, check them out. You might find me nursing a cup of incredibly well crafted latte. See you there.
