We hand over our freedom everyday. Not the freedom you readily bring to mind or would think of.
Today’s idea hit me from my Stoic moment this morning. I got a greater idea to why I’ve been so messed up or felt trapped in things I don’t want to be in lately. I let my mind steal freedoms from me.
We hand over our minds to anger, to fear, to frustrations in others we see, to behaviors we don’t like. Leaving ourselves completely wrecked.
We unintentionally give our freedoms away because we surrender our minds to things we should not. Most of the time we don’t realize we are even doing it. It’s autonomic. This is ridiculous. Most of the time, if we knew it was happening, we would be appalled.
We can be controlled by surrendering our minds. Yes, you can lose freedoms even. The maelstrom of emotions that our mind conjures up imprison us. Where our thoughts go, so go our actions.
Today’s idea is remembering that. Control over our minds, mastery of our emotions the mind brings forward, can also increase the amount of freedom we have or want. Freedom to create with out fear someone will tear it apart. Freedom to be healthier because we practice self-compassion mindfully. Freedom to pursue a position at work that we more than deserve to have with out feeling unworthy.
I know, easier said then done. I don’t have an easy answer as how to do it. That is and will be your personal journey to figure it out. I would write it out so you can see it from a way different angle. Is it real? Why? Or is it your mind overreaching, stealing your freedom to move forward? Are you shackled? Why? Where is this coming from?
It’s hard to sit with ourselves. Yes, it is equally ugly too sometimes to do that as well. But, it’s essential.
Practice though, also, makes it feasible to master our own thoughts. Getting a fresh perspective by being still, going deep, and taking time to see your mind will help. Our minds must be your most valuable tool, not your hindrance, as we move towards the best version of ourselves possible.
